Wistron, the first company to manufacture iPhones in India,

claiming that the company was unable to turn a profit due to Apple's difficult price negotiations

The announcement coincides with the Cupertino company's ongoing shift of its iPhone

Apple has long known that it needs to reduce its reliance on China as a manufacturing hub

but the effects of the pandemic at the largest iPhone assembly plant in the world brought the issue into sharp relief.

According to estimates, the COVID-19-related outage cost the business $1 billion each week.

Apple's best chance of moving production outside of China is thought to be India.
